Brand New: $455,500

Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren
The Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren is an amazing sports car and supercar co-developed by DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars. Most people presume "SLR" to stand for "Sportlich, Leicht, Rennsport" (German for "Sport; Light; Racing"). The car's base price is £300,000 or $455,500 (including $2500 shipping and $3000 gas-guzzler tax). According to the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, September 2006 may mark an update to the SLR including a power increase for its supercharged V8 from 626 to 650 hp DIN (German horsepower numbers), an updated interior, 19-inch wheels, a firmer suspension, a new braking system and increased weight savings. New colors (blue exterior, tan interior) may also be available. Rob Moran, the U.S Representative for Merecedes-Benz, states, "We'll reveal it when It's ready".
The SLR has a supercharged 5.5 litre dry sumped 90 degree V8 engine. It produces 626hp at 6500rpm and 575 ft·lbf of torque at 3250 - 5000 rpm. Unlike most of its contemporaries, its engine is front-mid mounted. AMG technicians took the original SL-55 AMG engine and optimized its capacities by enlarging the fuel pump, the cylinders, and put a larger cooling system that absorbs air to cool down the engine.
Mercedes Benz and McLaren claim the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, 200 in 10.6 seconds, and 300 km/h in 28.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 334 km/h (208 mph), making it the fastest automatic transmition car in the world. The car uses carbon fibre for its body construction which makes it very ligh. The car itself is, however still quite heavy weighing in at 1768kg because of the luxury items included, such as air con, and an automatic transmition
Mercedez Benz and McLaren have stated that they will build only 3500 SLRs in a span of over 7 years, with a production of only 500 cars per year. The 1000th car was produced in February 2006, in black for a Japanese customer.
